Melisse creates images based on a direct interpretation of a song.
When she hears the music, she sees an image to each intricate sound.
Each note carries it's own color, shape, line or form.
Family Portrait
Although not by sound, this was the first piece in the Soundmotif collection — a family portrait of Melisse's family at the time, divided into four quadrants. The upper left is her mother, upper right is her father, lower left herself, lower right her brother. Perhaps a new one will come for her family with her husband and two children!
Portrait of a Subway Rider No.1
One day on the way to her office uptown in NYC, Melisse looked across to find a most inspiring young man wearing a black hoodie with white polkadots and purple and turquoise patent leather sneakers. He was jamming out to some music on his headphones on one of the older subway cars with yellow and orange seats. And so began her portrait series. If only she had asked him what song he was listening to...the subway looked just like it does in this photograph.
Real Love
Interpretation of the song REAL LOVE — recorded by client as a gift to her husband.
